Crystals and The Chakras

Everything is made of energy. From our physical bodies to our thoughts and our feelings, it’s all made up of energy. Located deep within the body are concentrated centers of energy called Chakras (Pronounced SHOCK-RAHS), which means “wheel” in the ancient Eastern language of Sanskrit. These chakras are influenced by our thoughts and emotions. The energy centers look a lot like fans with their blades overlapping. Most of these chakras are located near major hormonal organs, they push vital life energy (also known as “ki”, “chi”, or “prana”) through the body, providing vitality.

Your chakras radiate and receive energy constantly, the wheels work as pinball paddles pushing energy along. If you hold negative thoughts, your chakras can become “dirty” with dense energies. The dense energy, thus, slows the spinning of the chakras, halting energy and keeping it stagnant or stuck within its center. Clogged chakras can leave you feeling sluggish and out of balance.

We have chakraks for each “issue” that you commonly think about, like money, career, food, shelter, and safety. If you raise your vibrations and harbor more positive thoughts than negative ones, these chakras will operate at a perfectly healthy rate, radiating and providing vital energy to spread throughout the chakra system and your body.

Now that’s all fine and dandy, but we all know that life happens. Things alter our moods and our perspectives for the better or for the worst. Sometimes, these situations cause us to worry or lead us to become obsessed about different aspects of our life occasionally. The key is maintaining the balance of energy throughout your chakras.

Now, this is where crystals come into the mix in this blog post. Crystals have the ability to help clogged chakras return to their original state. They help bring negative energies to the surfaces so that you may release them into the ether to be transmuted and returned to you anew.

We will spend time talking about the 7 most popular chakras that directly influence your daily lives. They each spin in a clockwise fashion. The lower chakras are associated with issues in the material world. They spin at a slower rate and appear in shades of red, orange and yellow. The upper chakras are associated with spiritual issues, they spin faster and radiate colors of green ,blue, violet and purple. Crystals that reflect these colors can be placed in the regions of the chakras on the body for deeper healing and cleansing of “muddy” chakraks.

Let’s dive into the 7 chakras and the crystals associated with them!

Root Chakra (Muladhara)

This is the lowest most chakra in the body and it spins the slowest. It is located at the base of the spine. Its slow spinning creates a brilliant ruby-red color. When this chakra is clean it sparkes with bright white crystal lights mixed with a rich shade of red. It sparkles like a ruby under the sunlight. When the root chakra is dirty it has a dark red color to it.

The word Muladhara breaks down into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base.”

The root chakra is related to issues in physical security and can be affected by your thought and feeling about:

  • Money

    • Finances, bills, retirement, accounts, the economy, gambling, and or the lottery

  • Career

    • Making enough money, being in the “right” job, issues and benefits and retirement, commuting, concerns about layoff or promotions, and thought about your future

  • Home

    • Desires to move, feelings of safety, the condition and energy of your home, maintaining your home, Feng shui, and or thoughts about buying a home

  • Physical Safety

    • Feeling safe or unsafe

  • Needs

    • Having enough to eat, having sufficient clothing

  • Possessions

    • Vehicles, furniture, jewelry, and work-related equipment

When we have fears about our physical needs being met, the root chakra shrinks in size and gets darker and dirty. You can literally choke out your root chakra with worries about money, your career, and or possessions. Our worries about this create feelings of lack or limitation. When we obsess over these things it enlarges the chakra. Now, there is nothing wrong with a large chakra, but obsessions create imbalances because they make one or more chakras bigger than the other. Chakra clearing helps you to balance the chakras that are all large and all clean. Check out this list of crystals that support the cleanliness of the root

chakra:

  • Obsidian

  • Red Jasper

  • Hematite

  • Smoky Quartz

  • Poppy Jasper

  • Black Tourmaline

  • Red Tiger’s eye

  • Bronzite

  • Carnelian

Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

The next chakra is called the sacral chakra and it is located in between the navel and the base of the spine. This chakra is associated with issues with the body, health and pleasures. The sacral chakra spins faster than the root chakra and emits a lovely orange color. A balanced sacral chakra glows with a pale, clean white interior. A dirty one glows a burnt orange color.

In Sanskrit, Svadhisthana means “the dwelling place of the self”, and some also say it has another meaning of “take pleasure in”. The sacral chakra relates to emotional and sexual energy in the body and our ability to flow with change.

The sacral chakra can be affected with thought and feelings related to::

  • Cravings for physical pleasures

    • Food, drink, sex, or thrill-seeking

  • Addictions

    • Drugs, alcohol, food, and other substances

  • Your body

    • Exercise habits, sleep patterns, weight, health, and thoughts about your appearance.

When we worry and become stressed about our perceptions of our bodies, the sacral chakra becomes shrunken and dirty. There may be feelings of fatigue and lethargicness. If you become obsessed with your body, the sacral chakra becomes enlarged and dirty.

Here is a list of crystals that will help cleanse and balance your sacral chakra:

  • Carnelian

  • Tiger's Eye

  • Orange Calcite

  • Amber

  • Unakite

  • Sunstone

  • Orange Aventurine

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

The solar is the third major chakra and is located right behind the navel. It spins a lot faster than the root and sacral chakras. The solar plexus spins with brilliant hues of yellow. When this chakra is clean, it glows bright and golden like the sun, sparkling with white lights. A dirty solar plexus chakra shows a muddy shade of yellow mixed with dark patches of brown and black.

The word “Manipura” means a lustrous gem. The jewel or qualities associated with this chakra strengthen the digestive system and diaphragm. The Solar Plexus focuses on the power and autonomy of metabolism. The element for the Solar Plexus is fire. Activating the fire within moderate body temperature helps in food digestion.

The solar plexus chakra is affected by thoughts and feelings about:

  • Power

    • the fear of being or desiring to be a powerful person, fear of authority figures, obsessions with power, concerns about people or nations that weld a lot of power, current or past experiences where you were overpowered by another person.

  • Control

    • fears of being controlled by others, fear of losing control, desire for control over yourself, situations, or other people, past or current situations where you felt controlled or out of control.

If you have fears that others overpower or control you, your solar plexus will appear to be a dark yellow and small. When you obsess about gaining power and control, the solar plexus can get enlarged and turn a muddy yellow color.

When placed on the navel, these crystals can help clear and balance the solar plexus chakra:

  • Lemon Quartz

  • Citrine

  • Yellow Jasper

  • Amber

  • Golden Heliodor

  • Pyrite

  • Yellow Topaz

  • Yellow Tiger's Eye

  • Yellow Topaz

  • Golden Mookaite

  • Peach Moonstone

  • Peridot

Heart Chakra ( Anahata)

The heart chakra is the 4th major chakra and it is located in the center of the chest. It represents the beginning of the upper chakra system, which all correspond to spiritual issues. The heart chakra spins at a medium-fast rate and shows a beautiful green color. A clean heart chakra sparkles bright like an emerald jewel sparking in the sunlight, while a dirty one has a deep green, muddy color.

Anahata means “unhurt” in Sanskrit. The heart chakra acts as the individual’s center of compassion, empathy, love, and forgiveness. This chakra governs one’s senses of trust, fearlessness, peace, generosity, gratitude, and connectedness, as well as change and transformation, healthy boundaries, depth in relationships with others, emotional control, and love for oneself.

The heart chakra can be affected by thoughts and/or feelings concerning:

  • Relationships

    • with mother, father, step-parents, grandparents, siblings, or other family members; past lover’s, friends, coworkers, employers, teachers; Strangers, peers.

  • Love-

    • Divine love from God and your higher self, romantic, plutonic, and familial love.

  • People attachments-

    • codependencies, dysfunctional relationships addictions or obsessions over a person.

  • Forgiveness or forgiveness

    • toward oneself; another person(living, deceased, famous, friend, or family member): or toward a country, group of people, governmental agency or organization.

If you have fears about giving or receiving love, it will shrink and dirty the heart chakra. Relationship addictions and obsessions create an enlarged and clogged heart chakra. In either case, having an unclear heart chakra can prevent a person from experiencing the deep bliss of true love.

Here’s a list of crystals that are known to help balance and cleanse the heart chakra. Be sure to place these crystals on your chest for best results:

  • Rose Quartz

  • Prehnite

  • Green Calcite

  • Emerald

  • Malachite

  • Amazonite

  • Green Aventurine

  • Green Tourmaline

  • Jade

  • Rhodochrosite

Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Residing near the Adam’s apple area on the neck is the fifth major chakra called the throat chakra. It spins faster than the 4 chakras below it and it puts off a sky blue color. When a throat chakra is clean, it resembles a clear sunshiny day, where, on the other hand, a dirty throat chakra looks like a dreary, dark day.

In Sanskrit, Vishuddha means “especially pure”. As the throat chakra governs the mouth, tongue, and neck, it relates to communication and your ability to understand and speak your inner truth “purely”. When out of balance, one has difficulty staying true to themselves and expressing needs, desires, and opinions with themselves and others.

The throat chakra is affected by thoughts and feelings concerned or related to:

  • Speaking your truth to

    • yourself, your loved ones, acquaintances, your clients and customers, co-workers, employers, and your audiences.

  • Communication Projects

    • involving singing, writing, speaking, artistic works, channeling, and teaching people.

  • Asking for your needs to be met

    • by God, your loved ones, your employers and coworkers, and yourself.

When you have fears about communicating it will shrink the throat chakra and may cause physical discomfort within the area. When obsessions about communicating can over stimulate the throat cake creating an imbalance and disproportionately large chakra.

Placing these crystals on your throat chakra will surely help you to speak your authentic truth:

  • Turquoise

  • Lapis Lazuli

  • Sodalite

  • Blue Apatite

Third Eye Chakra (Anja)

The 7th major chakra is the third eye chakra. It's an oval shaped region located right between the eyes. It is the eye of your true self or higher self. It records a movie of your whole life, including what you feel, think, and do. This chakra is a little different from the other because it has an eye in the center. Surrounding the eye is an energy center that radiates a brilliant indigo blue color with sparkling white lights and splashes of purple.

“Ajna” in Sanskrit, is “the seat of intuition.” Translations of the Sanskrit name include, “perceive,” “beyond wisdom,” and “command.” The throat chakra acts as the individual’s center of wisdom, conscience, and higher consciousness.

The third eye chakra is affected by thought and feelings relating to:

  • The future

    • your desire or reluctance to clearly see what is in store for you.

  • The past

    • if a vision that you had frightened you, or it you were prosecuted in this life or a past one for being psychic

  • Belief about spirits

    • your desire to see, or fear of seeing angels or apparitions.

When the third eye chakra is cleansed you will see the eye of your higher self clearly looking back at you. If you see an eye lid over the third eye, this indicates that the third eye chakra is closed. This eyelid may be completely hit, artistically open or blinking open and shut, or it could have a screen over it, blocking full spiritual vision.

When placed between the eyes, these crystals can help open your third eye chakra:

  • Fluorite

  • Iolite

  • Azurite

  • Dumortierite

  • Ametrine

  • Indigo Kyanite

  • Larvikite

  • Lepidolite

  • Purple Charoite

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Lastly, the last major chakra, the crown chakra, located at the top of your head and it looks like a ceiling fan colored in vivid purple. This chakra “crowns” all the other chakras within the body. It is essential to claircognizance or “clear knowing”, which gives you the ability to receive thoughts, information, and ideas from the divine mind or collective unconsciousness.

The Meaning of Sahasrara, or the Crown Chakra, is essentially the spiritual self. Working on the Crown Chakra is all about focusing on the higher self. Sahasrara is associated with the pursuit of spiritual peace, and connecting to higher consciousness or state of being. It is commonly pictured as concentric rings of flower petals, which represent the divine lotus. Sahasrara means ‘thousand petal lotus’.

The crown chakra is affected by thought and feelings related to:

  • God

    • whether we feel close, estranged from, indifferent to, or angry at our Creator.

  • Religion or spirituality

    • if we had negative experiences with formal religion, our anger or unforgiveness can clog our crown chakra.

  • Divine guidance

    • our feelings about receiving direction or ideas from the universal Source. Some people are threatened by the idea of “someone” telling them what to do, even if this someone is God or the collective consciousness.

  • Trust

    • or willingness or unwillingness to receive information or facts from the etheric plane, without knowing “how” we know.

A clean crown chakra glows in a beautiful rich shade of purple with sparkles of white diamond light. Crown chakras can become closed with unhealed or suppressed emotions about Divine Guidance, God or negative religious experiences and look dark as the night sky.

These crystals are known for opening and cleansing the crown chakra:
